  • ​Sub-Saharan Africa has both the highest rate of children living in extreme poverty at 49 percent and the largest share of the world’s extremely poor children at 51 percent per https://www.worldvision.org​
  • Africa is the world’s oldest populated area. Archaeologists have found evidence that the human species has lived on the content for roughly 7 million years!
  • The continent of Africa is comprised of 54 countries and one territory.
  • There are eight major geographical regions in Africa, each with its own unique landscape: the Sahara Desert, the savanna, the Sahel, the African Great Lakes, the Swahili Coast, South Africa and the rain forest.
  • The Sahara is the largest desert in the world. In fact, it’s bigger than the United States!
  • 75% of the world’s poorest countries are located in Africa per https://borgenproject.org
  • Of the 738 million people globally who lack access to clean water, 37 percent are living in sub-Saharan Africa per https://borgenproject.org
